Hi! Total knee replacement by far is a misnomer. It is just a resurfacing surgery whereby the ends of the arthritic bones are resurfaced with specialised implants with a polyethylene insert in between the two components. There are other ways to treat arthritis too but most work well only in grafe 1&2 arthritis. Grade 3 and 4 arthritis needs replacement eventually.
