If you’re sure it is a cavity it won’t go with polishing, you’ll have to get it filled.
If it is a stain which looks like cavity, it might go with cleaning and polishing.

For carious tooth you need to get it treated as soon as possible. Because once carious has been started, it will increase with time. So it's better to get it filled, because if you delay it will lead to more problems.
