To confirm tooth need RCT

If i take an xray, how does the image tell if i need a RCT? I like to be sure as couple of dentist i met just said the symptom tell them so and told me xray might not be conclusive. correct?

If cavity extends to pulp or if there is a lesion above the root. Yes, sometimes xrays are not conclusive. Sometimes lesions are not visible since Xray is 2 dimensional. A scan only will reveal. The clinician though can see clinically
