My newborn baby is 6 weeks old and has flexible tongue tie. There is no issue in latching, he can latch upto 45mins to 1 hour, and his weight gain is good. So it seems immediate treatment is not required. So till what age can this be treated? Is it necessary to undergo any surgery? Can we wait for 5-6 years to correct it ?

It can cause speech problems also. You cannot wait till 5-6 years. The procedure is very simple usually and takes a few minutes only. Please meet a pediatric surgeon.

A frenectomy is required in case of tongue tie Please consult a pediatric surgeon for further advice. Temporary speech impairment can occur as long as it's there - baby can't say ta, da, cha in many cases
