I am facing severe pain in my tailbone area while sitting on chair for longer hours during my office. I've been working from 6 years but never faced this type of pain. Suddenly from last 3 to 4 months Im suffering from this pain. Kindly suggest what should I do.

Your symptoms are suggestive of coccydynia (tailbone pain), which commonly occurs due to prolonged sitting, poor posture, repetitive pressure over the coccyx, or rarely after an unnoticed minor injury. Most patients improve with conservative treatment: Use a coccyx (U-shaped) cushion while sitting to reduce pressure on the tailbone. Avoid sitting continuously for long periods; stand and walk for a few minutes every 30–45 minutes. Maintain proper sitting posture and avoid leaning backwards. Apply warm compresses and perform stretching exercises for the lower back and pelvic muscles under the guidance of a physiotherapist. Anti-inflammatory medications may help if prescribed by your doctor. Since your pain has persisted for 3–4 months, you should be evaluated by an Orthopaedic specialist to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes such as coccygeal instability, lumbar spine pathology, or rarely infection or a local lesion.
Next Steps
Consult an Orthopaedic specialist for a clinical examination. You may require X-rays of the coccyx (sitting and standing views), and an MRI only if clinically indicated or if symptoms persist despite treatment. Continue activity modification and physiotherapy.
Health Tips
Seek immediate medical attention if your pain is associated with fever, unexplained weight loss, bowel or bladder problems, numbness or weakness in the legs, or if the pain becomes severe even without sitting. Most cases of coccydynia improve with conservative treatment, but persistent pain may require targeted injections or other interventions after evaluation.

Your symptoms are suggestive of coccydynia (tailbone pain), commonly caused by prolonged sitting, repetitive pressure over the coccyx, poor posture, or occasionally a minor unnoticed injury. I recommend using a coccyx (U-shaped) cushion, avoiding prolonged sitting, taking frequent breaks, warm sitz baths, and a short course of pain medication if suitable. As your symptoms have persisted for 3–4 months, an orthopaedic evaluation is recommended to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes.
Next Steps
Consult an Orthopaedic Surgeon for clinical examination. An X-ray of the sacrococcygeal region (preferably sitting and standing lateral views) may be required. If symptoms persist despite conservative treatment, further evaluation such as an MRI may be advised.
Health Tips
Avoid sitting continuously for long periods. Stand and walk for a few minutes every 30–45 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop fever, swelling, numbness, weakness, bowel/bladder symptoms, or unexplained weight loss.

Start using a special pillow called coccydynia pillow whenever you sit. Apply hot compresses. Take anti inflammatory medication for few days.
