Generally an orthodontist charge 70- 75% of his/her original fees if brackets doesn't have to be changed. But if you need new brackets than your case will be considered as a new case. Above all, it all depends on the orthodontist how he/she wants to carry forward your case based on your requirements.

You need to take a written consent from your previous Orthodontist and he would mention in what stage of treatment it is in. That would be helpful for the future Orthodontist. If possible, try to get your initial records, to show it to your new orthodontist. But preferably, try to get your treatment done with the old Orthodontist itself. Since treatment plan for each and every orthodontist would differ and treatment charges would be taken as a fresh treatment, irrespective of whatever stage you are in.

But if things don’t workout and you do change then you may land up paying about 30% extra depending how far you are in your treatment. The new orthodontist would not charge you the cost of the braces mostly. Also you need to make sure that you get all your X-rays and models and photos from your original orthodontist to your new one so they understand the starting point of treatment.
