Stranger anxiety or shyness

I am a 25 years old software developer and in my job I have to in  touch with lot of strangers. Since my childhood my nature is avoid engaging with strangers due to couple of reasons like how they react if I said something wrong or I might get into some embarrassed situation. These fears always prevent me becoming a better social person. A recent example of this problem is that I want to join gym from a very long time but couldn't due to fear of being judged. As a comparison my younger brother is quite opposite to me he is quite social person he don't have any of these problems. I don't know what is reason for this. Well my guess due to shyness or may be social anxiety disorder but this thing is making my life little uncomfortable. I really love to get rid of this thing.
