Keeping the back straight and erect for a long period of time is not appropriate. Our back is designed to move in different directions. To avoid stiffness rather than sitting erect try moving the spine in various directions such as bending back, front, rotation in sitting and standing, and sideways. Back extension exercises also stretch the back and prevents stiffness.
Next Steps
Try sitting in a supported chair with pillow at the back.

Consult a Physio learn exercise based on current health in general. This will ensure your back remains active with no injuries and stiffness. If back doesn't hurt, sleep anywhere that you want. Floor is good but not necessary. Most of the basic mattresses don't harm either if there's no pre-existing pain conditions. Avoid low-cost, extra soft foam mattresses.
