Sore or strep throat in pregnancy

I have just tested positive for pregnancy. I am suffering form severe throat with a bit of cough. My doc said to use salt gargle and no medication but I am in very much pain. Does the sore or strep throat infection effects the returns. Apart from throat pain I have no cold or fever or anything
