A small lump beside the shin bone that is felt mainly on pressing and seems to have increased slightly over 1 to 1.5 months is usually benign, but it should always be examined properly because the shin area has very little soft tissue, so even small changes can feel more prominent. The most common possibilities are: 1. Lipoma A soft, mobile, non-painful fatty lump under the skin. These grow slowly and are harmless. 2. Fibroma / Dermatofibroma A small fibrous tissue growth that becomes more noticeable on pressing. 3. Post-traumatic nodule Even minor unnoticed injury can cause a small swelling over the shin that stays for a few weeks. 4. Periosteal reaction / bony prominence Sometimes the bone surface reacts after mild trauma, giving a firm lump feel. 5. Less common but important to rule out: A fast-growing or hard, fixed swelling may need evaluation to rule out deeper tissue lesions.
Next Steps
Right now nothing you’ve described suggests an emergency, but because you’ve noticed growth over time, it’s important to get it checked once in person. A simple clinical exam and an ultrasound of the soft tissue around the shin will clearly tell us what it is and whether it needs any treatment. Good luck!

A small lump near the shin that’s only felt with pressure and has slowly grown is most commonly a lipoma (fat lump) or a fibroma — both benign. It can also be a small cyst or post-injury swelling. When to worry Rapid growth Pain or tenderness Hard/fixed lump Redness or warmth Numbness or tingling
