The most common possibilities are: 1. Lipoma A soft, mobile, non-painful fatty lump under the skin. These grow slowly and are harmless. 2. Fibroma / Dermatofibroma A small fibrous tissue growth that becomes more noticeable on pressing. 3. Post-traumatic nodule Even minor unnoticed injury can cause a small swelling over the shin that stays for a few weeks. 4. Periosteal reaction / bony prominence Sometimes the bone surface reacts after mild trauma, giving a firm lump feel. 5. Less common but important to rule out: A fast-growing or hard, fixed swelling may need evaluation to rule out deeper tissue lesions.
