Hello, thank you for trusting us with something so personal. What you're describing is a lot to carry, and your body and mind are clearly under real strain. Reaching out is a good step.
Months of poor sleep, constant stress and conflict at home can affect the body in very physical ways. Long-term stress and low sleep raise the stress hormone cortisol, which can break down muscle, make the body hold on to water, and leave you tired and short of breath. So your symptoms may well be connected to what you've been through. Still, muscle loss, water retention and breathlessness together shouldn't be put down to stress alone. Sometimes the kidneys, heart,
liver,
thyroid or protein and
vitamin levels are involved, so it's worth checking them properly, so we're sure nothing is being missed.
Next Steps
Please get a check-up with a few simple tests:
complete blood count,
kidney and
liver function,
thyroid, blood
sugar,
vitamin D and
B12, and a urine test, along with a blood pressure check. Since you feel breathless and notice swelling, an in-person examination soon would give us the clearest picture. A video consult can then bring the reports together with your sleep, stress and routine, and plan a gentle, whole-person approach. If the breathlessness increases, you notice swelling in the legs or face, chest pain, or feel faint, please see a doctor the same day. Talking to a counsellor or someone you trust about what's happening at home can also lighten the load, and your safety and peace of mind matter just as much as your reports.
Health Tips
- Keep a fixed bedtime and wake time, and avoid phone screens for an hour before bed
- Avoid tea, coffee and heavy meals in the evening, and keep dinner light
- Try slow breathing for 5 minutes at night: breathe in for 4 counts, out for 6
- Eat protein at every meal (dal, eggs, paneer, curd, sprouts, soy) to rebuild muscle
- Keep salt and packaged food low while the swelling is there, and drink water normally
- Walk gently for 15 to 20 minutes daily, and add light strength exercise as your energy improves
- Spend a little time each day outdoors in morning light
- Find a quiet space or person you feel safe with, and take a short break before arguments grow
If you're still worried, do book a consult and we can look at it together. Take care.
