Instead of MRI please undergo a sleep study(polysomnography) All your biological parameters during sleep will be monitored and recorded including things like oxygen saturation in blood, heart rate and breathing.
Breathlessness during lying down is called orthopnea, which can also be due to certain cardiac and lung factors.
So you can also get a cardiologist’s opinion.
If all above factors are ruled out, it is most likely a feeling of breathlessness from anxiety as you might be unknowingly breathing fast/ hyperventilating. Please visit a psychiatrist to get treatment for anxiety and meanwhile practice deep breathing techniques
