Sharp shooting knee pain

My mom has recently been experiencing a sharp shooting pain in the knee. This happens when she's standing, sitting, and also when she's sleeping. She's been going for physiotherapy daily and applying heat twice at home. This started recently, around 4 days back. We're going to consult an Ortho but would like have some expert advice/opinion on the same.
