Severe Constipation

Dear Sir My son has had few episodes of severe constipation where he goes without poop for 4-5 days. He is currently experiencing one and today is the 4th day, we have been giving him laxatives but is still not able to pass it and is in a lot of pain. Is there anything else that we could try?
