2024-04-25 06:53:28
Hi. Pfa my serum electrolytes report from 2 different labs. The potassium levels are very different. I gave one sample empty stomach and another after having lunch. Which one to rely on ? Also, my calcium in old one was 8.5 based on which i was given calcium tablet but in new its 9.3 which is within range. Do i need calcium supplement then? I am very perplexed. Please help.

I understand your concern regarding the varying results in your serum electrolyte reports. Let’s break down the information: - It’s not uncommon for potassium levels to differ between different labs or even within the same lab due to variations in testing methods and sample handling. Serum potassium levels can fluctuate throughout the day, especially if you had one sample on an empty stomach and another after lunch. The clinical significance depends on whether you have any symptoms related to potassium imbalance ,such as weakness, muscle cramps, or irregular heartbeats. - another thing, your calcium levels have improved from 8.5 to 9.3, and the current value falls within the normal range. Since your calcium is now within the acceptable range, you may not need additional calcium supplementation.

symptoms, and overall health play a crucial role in decision-making. I suggest to discuss your symptoms and reports combined . So that if any symptom is there, can be treated as early as we can.

Sir Serum electrolytes are levels in your blood and they are very tightly regulated by your body. Your reports are absolutely okay. If you don't have any clinical symptoms , you need not worry about it .
