Repetition of Vit D3 dose

2026-04-05 13:19:39
My 11-year-old son had vitamin D deficiency last year; his level was 13 ng/mL. We gave him vitamin D3, 600,000 IU weekly for 8 weeks, followed by 1,000 IU tablets for 2 months. However, after one year, his level dropped to 11 ng/mL. Should I repeat the 600,000 IU dose?”

You need to supplement with either 60000 iu fortnightly for 5 doses or 3000 iu per day for 3 months. Also add calcium 500 mg per day for 3 months Also try to get him out for more sun exposure ideally 11am to 3 pm sunlight If still vitamin d is low then we need to figure out cause

Hello there, you should repeat vitamin d doses. 60000IU once a week for 6 weeks, then once a month for 6 months. But in your case, your child has decreased levels irrespective of medication, so do Consult online and get prescribed properly with history. Also give him calcium and vitamin rich foods.

Yes, repeat the dose for now And parallelly monitor the weight monthly and height 6 monthly with made a diary to note down the event and common complaints he will do. Also give him a good fat diet + milk. Allow him to play under sunlight for 1-2 hours daily (Sunbath). Also keep notice of deformity  and secondary sexual character. Sometimes it could combine deficiency of fat soluble vitamins.
Next Steps
consult to pediatrician / endocrinologist with complete information to interprete well on next visit.
