I have been diagnosed with pericoronitis, and have been asked to for tooth extraction and need to take ultracet and augmentin. Could you please advise if they both are breastfeeding same? I am exclusively breastfeeding my baby, hence need to know if these medicines are nursing safe?

Here augmentin (antibiotic) is having amoxicillin and clavulanic acid which is considered safe during breastfeeding as it passes in very little amount into the milk whereas ultracet (pain killer) is having Tramadol as a main component which is not considered safe during breastfeeding. You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen as a pain killer.

If you're breastfeeding, it's better to avoid Ultracet as Tramadol may affect the baby. Instead of Augmentin, you can take Amoxicillin 500 mg, 3 times a day for 5 days (after doctor's advice). For pain, prefer Paracetamol 650 mg or Ibuprofen 400 mg  both are safe during breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor before starting any medication.
