Respected Sir, I am sorry to hear about your problems and understand the dilemma you are currently facing. First of all, let me first applaud your decision to actually see a professional to evaluate your problems. Now, coming to your query, as a psychiatrist myself I am inclined to say that you should consult a psychiatrist first. However let me try to provide an unbiased opinion. A psychiatrist is first and foremost a doctor, a person who has done his MBBS and then underwent a rigorous post graduate training to complete his MD or DNB or Diploma. on the other hand most psychologists are not actually doctors in the sense that they don't have MBBS degrees. However some of them have done their PhD and actually earned the title of a Dr. in that sense. In your case, it's entirely upto you whom you consult, a psychiatrist will be able to evaluate you both physically and mentally and has the right to prescribe you medicines should you need them, but a psychologist may be able to spend more time with you. So, I hope I have explained about your options. The rest is upto you. Good luck and take care. If you found this helpful or not, please do leave a feedback
