Apply cold compresses to closed eyes especially when they are very itchy for 5 minutes at a stretch-two to 3 times a day. Cover an ice pack with a piece of cloth and apply over lids with very mild pressure so that the cold temperature reaches the inner parts of the lids and don't keep the ice pack for more than 2-3 seconds in one part of the eye.
Also it depends how itchy your eyes are.
If they are mildly itchy then put olopatadine 0.1% eye drops -one drop each eye twice a day .
If they are moderately itchy then put Olopatadine plus ketorolac eye drops-one drop each eye- twice a day. This drop may cause mild stinging in the eyes for 4-5 minutes after putting them in the eyes but their final effect is beneficial.
If they are severely itchy but there should be no discharge from the eye, only then put moxifloxacin plus loteprednol eye drops -one drop each eye 4 times a day for 4 days , then 3 times a day for the next 4 days, then 2 times a day next -5 days and one time a day -next 5 days.
Please do not put this drop and use one of the above drops with cold compresses if there is any discharge from the eyes.
If the eyes are very very severely itchy then add Allegra-120 mg/Levocetrizine-5mg/cetrizine tablets -10mg at bedtime as they will cause drowsiness for 5 days.
Next Steps
The patient should use one of the above treatments for one week and then follow up with the eye specialist and tell them how much is the improvement with the treatment provided. Then the eye specialist will tell them what to do next.
Health Tips
Ketorolac eye drops will sting which is normal so don't get worried.
Use Moxifloxacin plus loteprednol only if there is no discharge from the eye or there is no severe foreign body sensation in the eye.
For dark circles please consult a Skin specialist.
