PERSISTENT MUCUS IN 2 YRS BABY'S STOOL

2025-10-21 06:55:13
Is persistent mucus in baby's stool normal ? His stool frequency and consistency  are normal  But before stool passing  now he feels mild pain in abdomen . He developed milk allergy with the symptom of bloody mucus 1 year ago. Then colonoscopy detected mild erosions in entire colon. After elimination of milk based products blood has stopped but persistent mucus in stool remains . Is it normal or something more investigations needed for that kind of mucus with stool?

Get stool routine done for fat globules. A more detailed and in-person examination of the child will be needed as the history is a bit complicated.

Hello, Mucus is normally produced in intestine. But if it’s seen separate to stools and is persistent, it could mean presence of infection or allergy. We could send a stool culture to confirm.

Persistent mucus in stools could be due to  conditions like infections, allergies, gut inflammation. With history of milk allergies, maybe the child is allergic to some other foods as well.
Next Steps
1.Try to go for a detailed examination by a pediatrician. 2. Monitoring of weight 3. Routine microscopy to rule out any malabsorption, infections 4. Consult Physician for need of deworming agents 5. Look for any development of rash in the local area
Health Tips
1. Avoid milk and milk products 2. Keep a soft diet for the child 3. Check for family history of Asthma / drug allergies/ food allergies in family 4. May need a consultation from pediatric gastroenterologist/ immunologist
