Persistent Diarrhoea

Hi Doc, My son (5 months old) was having persistent diarrhoea for a few weeks. Doctor gave him antibiotics for 2 weeks. His stool color was always green during these times. Now it turned yellow in color. But his weight is not increasing at all. He was at around 7.2 kg when he had the disease (4 week ago). Even now, the weight is still the same although the diarrhoea has stopped. What could be the reason? Do we need to worry? Thank you for the advice in advance. Regards Prasad

7.2 kg at 5 months is exceptionally good weight. Childhood obesity is linked to obesity in adult age as well. Stool colour is rarely important, unless it represents blood. Please do not worry. Put him back on breast milk and introduce home made semi-solid food when he turns 6 months.

Hello.., diarrhea is a acute illness .. Not a chronic one ..you don't have to worry about it.. You son will gain weight eventually .. It takes time .greenish diarrhea caused by salmonella infection .. Commonly seen in unhygienic children .. You must keep eye on his activities and must wash your hands before feeding.
