PARASANAL SINUS
5mm contiguous scans of the paranasal sinuses were obtained in the axial / coronal plane on MDCT scanner.
Moderate mucosal thickening is seen within the right maxillary paranasal sinus with mild focal mucosal thickening within the left maxillary
paranasal sinus, s/o chronic sinusitis. There is partial blockage of right maxillary ostium due to mucosal thickening. The nasal septum is showing
deviation towards the left with bony spur on the same side.
What does it mean is it related to black fungus( mucurmycosis..??my grandfather tested positive 1 month ago..now he is fine ..today we done a ct scan and this result came.
This looks like findings of chronic sinusitis ... No calcification or bone erosion have been commented upon ... Was ur grandfather put on steroids ? If so for how many days ? Get an hba1c and crp done ... Also ct is not specific for mucor gadolinium enhanced mri can diagnose better ... But don't panic ... Get the above tests done and treat like sinusitis ... Keep a watch for facial pain , swelling , blurring of vision and black crusting in the nose ... Consult an ent doctor for guidance if required

Mucormycosis generally will show erosion of Sinusitis, soft tissues in orbit etc. This is only chronic sinusitis like picture. The only problem is this might be a very early fungus. I would start treating on Sinusitis lines and repeat CT as condition changes
