Have you been advised a change in your brushing technique, use of proper toothbrush, toothpaste and a mouthwash? If not then here are a few tips you may follow to get relief. Your brushing motion has to be circular with your jaw slightly apart. That way the chances of bristles touching or injuring your gums is reduced. Also make sure you always buy a soft bristles small head brush. If you have any parafunctional habit such as nail pen or pencil bitting then you need to stop. After brushing you can also make use of a non alcoholic mouthwash which will give a soothing effect to your gums reducing swelling and redness if any. Irritation or swelling in the gums may also be related to non oral causes such as hormonal imbalances or use of certain drugs or irregular menstrual cycle. But mostly gingivitis is associated with local irritants. You may try the above methods for a few days and if problem persists, you may take a second opinion.
