Yes, it can be taken, duration depends on initial values of iron, Haemoglobin. In your case, there is mild deficiency which can be corrected by 4 to 6  weeks therapy. Also focus  on diet.

Your serum iron of 37.2 ug/dl is indeed low, and Orofer XT is a good iron supplement commonly used for iron deficiency. However, the duration of treatment depends on your haemoglobin level, ferritin level, and the underlying cause of the iron deficiency — typically it is continued for 3 to 6 months after haemoglobin normalises to replenish iron stores. At 61 years, the cause of iron deficiency also needs to be investigated to rule out any hidden blood loss.
Next Steps
Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation — I can review your complete blood counts and guide you on the right duration and dosage.

, serum iron alone cannot diagnose iron deficiency because it fluctuates with meals, time of day, infection, and inflammation. To interpret it properly, check: • CBC (Hb, MCV, MCH, RDW) • Serum ferritin (best test for iron stores) • TIBC or transferrin • Transferrin saturation (TSAT)
Next Steps
You need to get these reports done or if you have the report, consult it for the same..For reference is your ferritin is low, then you are definately having iron deficiency.
