Always empty one breast completely before switching to the other. Frequent switching between breasts can cause the baby to get more foremilk, which may lead to loose motions. Excess hindmilk, on the other hand, can sometimes cause constipation. However, in your case, I don’t think this is the reason. This type of constipation is quite common in babies during this season. No medication is required, and laxatives are particularly not recommended. A soft abdomen is a reassuring and good sign. Try to offer more breastfeeding if possible. If the constipation continues, a glycerin (Ana) suppository is safe and works well. Mother’s milk is 80–90% water and is very easily digested.

Please don’t worry. In a 50-day-old baby, especially if breastfed, passing stools once in several days can be completely normal. Since your baby: • Is passing urine well (5–8 wet diapers/day) • Has a soft tummy • Is passing gas, sleeping well, and feeding normally
