Polycystic ovarian syndrome has 3 components to diagnose:
1. Symptoms: Delayed or Irregular periods, Hirsutism, acne or oily skin, dark patches of skin in folds and creases, Inappropriate male features, loss of scalp hair, or presence of unwanted hair, Weight gain.
2. Labs: Hormonal imbalance
3. USG: Scan shows multiple follicle almond with increased Ovarian volume
Any 2 out of 3 suggests PCOS
Oral contraceptive pills:
Now a days low dose OC pills are available which has very minimal side effects.But cases are there with severe adverse effects like Pulmonary embolism or Deep vein thrombosis.
So always consult Gynecologist before starting pills. Do baseline blood tests, sonography And go for scheduled follow up.
