Based on the MRI report, your cousin has multilevel degenerative disc disease involving both the cervical and lumbar spine.
* Cervical spine: Mild canal stenosis at C4–C5 and C5–C6 with disc protrusions causing mild narrowing of the nerve exit canals, but the spinal cord is normal and there is no significant cord compression.
* Lumbar spine: Diffuse disc bulges at L4–L5 and L5–S1 causing compression of the thecal sac, which may explain symptoms such as low back pain or pain radiating to the legs.
Next Steps
Please consult a Spine/Orthopaedic surgeon with the MRI images (not just the report) for a detailed clinical evaluation. If your cousin has neck pain, arm pain, back pain, or leg pain, treatment can often be started with medications, physiotherapy, and activity modification. You can also book an online consultation with me and share the MRI images along with the symptoms so I can advise whether conservative treatment is sufficient or if any intervention is required.
Health Tips
If your cousin develops progressive weakness in the arms or legs, difficulty walking, loss of hand function, or loss of bladder/bowel control, seek immediate medical attention, as these symptoms require urgent evaluation.
