Mild cough

Hello, my son is 5 months old and he has been coughing for 2 days and it is mild. What should I do? Are there any recommendations as I don't prefer antibiotics to be given to my child so I'm bit confused.

Hello, I understand your concern Cough is likely due to a viral cold, especially if there’s a sibling or other family member with similar symptoms. No need for antibiotics unless signs of bacterial infection develop.
Next Steps
Keep baby warm and avoid exposure to cold air. Continue exclusive breastfeeding – helps in recovery and boosts immunity. Use saline nasal drops (if nose is blocked) before feeds to help breathing. No over-the-counter cough syrups are safe at this age. If symptoms worsen or don’t improve in 3–5 days, review with Pediatrician.
Health Tips
Red flags: Difficulty in breathing or fast breathing Noisy breathing or grunting Poor feeding or refusal to feed High fever (>100.4°F or 38°C) Lethargy or excessive sleepiness Chest indrawing or bluish lips
