Maryland dental bridge (first premolar)
I have two first premolars missing due to braces extraction and Retracting the front teeth backward is ruining my facial profile.
I want to fill my missing teeth spaces using Maryland bridge. Is it a good idea. How long would a Maryland bridge last. Also can I use my natural teeth that is extracted as a pontic for Maryland bridge
Please assist.

This is a very difficult question to answer on this platform as there are no images provided and the solution depends on the status of your braces treatment. Generally, during the braces treatment the Orthodontist will decide when the replacement(if at all required) can be done. Afterwards the possibility of Maryland can be explored. In pre molar region the success of Maryland Bridge can't be assured as you are already under braces treatment (as the bite determines the load on the premolar and hence their success). Please get an online/physical consult doen from a prosthodontist or an ortho dontist

Hi i think the extraction of premolars would have been intentional to create space to push your other teeth backward.
Kindly talk to your dentist and orthodontist if that space is going to be utilised in correction of alignment.
If you are not happy with the facial profile and you want to let those missing spaces be then the best replacement option in that case would be an implant.
Using natural teeth as a pontic is not advisable.
Since you are young and bilateral replacement is required implant should be your go to choice.

A maryland bridge can not be used for posterior teeth as they have a poor retention and hence can not bear the chewing forces . Natural teeth can not be used as pontics .

You can go for dental implants or a proper bridge, Iwould suggest an implant anyhow , because it is a lifetime option and it preserves your bone too. Visit a dentist to understand the complete protocol.

A Maryland bridge is never advised for the back teeth since it cannot take the chewing forces even if bonded to the adjacent teeth. A Maryland bridge of 2 premolars is not advised at all. It won't stay for more than a week. Your extracted natural teeth cannot be used as pontics.
