A year of loose, poorly absorbed stools with weight loss and nutrient deficiency is more than ordinary IBS, and it deserves a proper work-up rather than trial remedies. The basic panel I would start with is CBC, ESR, ferritin, B12, vitamin D, thyroid profile, coeliac serology (tTG-IgA with total IgA), stool routine with fat globules and a stool test for Giardia. Coeliac disease, giardiasis, lactose intolerance, small bowel bacterial overgrowth and thyroid problems are the common and very treatable causes at your age. Meanwhile take small frequent meals with protein in each, curd or a probiotic daily, and try two weeks with less lactose, caffeine and oily food to see if the stools firm up. Anxiety truly amplifies gut symptoms, so regular sleep, walking and slow breathing are part of the treatment rather than an extra. Please book a consultation with me on Practo with your reports and weight record, and we will pin down the cause and correct the deficiencies properly.
Next Steps
Get CBC, ferritin, B12, vitamin D, thyroid, coeliac serology and stool tests done, keep a two-week food and symptom diary, and review with the reports.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) does not cause generalized nutrient malabsorption, as it is a functional disorder that does not damage the intestinal lining. However, specific carbohydrate or bile acid malabsorption can mimic or overlap with IBS symptoms, and severe diarrhea-predominant IBS can occasionally lead to secondary dietary restrictions. so finding out reason for your malabsorption and treating it is needed. please take an opinion from gastroenterologist ....whether its IBS or IBD or any other parasitic infestation.

Hi, thank you for sharing your concerns. I understand how distressing it is to have malabsorption, IBS symptoms, weight loss, and nutrient deficiencies for the past 1 year along with anxiety. Malabsorption can have several underlying causes and it needs proper evaluation to find the root cause before starting any treatment. Please *take an appointment* with me as soon as possible so I can examine you, review your history, and advise the right tests to identify why this is happening. We’ll also discuss diet, supplements, and treatment that can help improve absorption and your weight. For now: - Eat small, frequent meals that are easy to digest - Stay hydrated and avoid very oily, spicy, or raw foods if they worsen your symptoms - Try stress management techniques as anxiety can worsen IBS - Please don’t start any supplements or strong remedies on your own until we check Given the weight loss and nutrient deficiency, it’s important we evaluate this soon. Let me know a convenient time for your appointment. Take care.
