Is it safe to use polyethylene glycol 400 drops on a regular basis 3 times a day or should one stop using it all together after a certain point?

Yes it is safe. You may taper the dosage according to need. In case problems recur, you may increase the dosage.

Hello this is a lubricating eyedrop if it is preservative free then you can use for long time without fear

You can use it for 2 months at a stretch. If you need something for a longer and regular usage, it's better to use an eyedrop that's relatively preservative free like Refresh tears eye drop or the one that's totally preservative free like Genteal eyedrop. The dose would remain the same
