Since you haven't mentioned the name of the medicines or any other symptoms, I'm assuming that you are referring to depression. Medicine can only help in the reuptake of serotonin but it does not teach you how to cope or deal with stress and feelings of helplessness, worthlessness and hopelessness. Also medicine should not be stopped and started just like that. Sometimes, Anti depressants have to be taken over a longer period of time for sustained relief.
