Hi doctor, how long is it normal for fluid to drain from the ear after placing a long-term grommet? At what point should I be concerned if it continues?

There is nothing to be concerned with the grommet . It is a ventilation tube so it will keep your middle ear ventilated . Hence minimal fluid coming is nothing to be concerned about. However make sure it is not excessive fluid and also 3 monthly u can visit ENT docotr and get an otoscopic or endoscopic evaluation of the ear

Mostly it will resolve in few days to 2 weeks , but if it's continue foul smell, or yellowish green or having associated symptoms like pain fever or hearing worsening, consult your ent surgeon.

Nothing to worry it may take few weeks (even upto 6 weeks to 12 weeks )for complete treatment for which grommet has been inserted.Nothing to worry. Keep using steroid nasal spray for 1 month....if it doesnot resolve by 2"3 months consult the ENT surgeon for the same.
