Indian Academy of Pediatrics latest recommendation if not to apply anything to the umbilical cord area. If there is swelling or redness or foul discahrge from the area once coed drops off, it is best reviewed without delay by your Pediatrician. If it is just looking damp but clean and otherwise no swelling or redness, let it air dry. Wait for the area to heal before bath is started. Sponge bath to continue till then
Next Steps
If redness/swelling/pus in area see doctor.
Health Tips
Avoid talcum/ointment without clinical review
