I am experiencing knee pain while sitting on the ground with crossed legs. The pain usually starts within 5 mins. Also, i am not an obese person, my weight is 64. What could be the cause? I am only 28.

We need to examine the knee thoroughly. It can be a knee effusion because of some injury in the knee or a degenerative tear of the meniscus. Or a simple ligament sprain. Visit your orthopedic surgeon.

my first diagnosis is Chondromalacia patella - which means softening of the patellar cartilage. There are many reasons for this condition - most important being hormonal imbalance/ pregnancy.
Next Steps
You need to consult orthopaedic surgeon. if he confirms that you are having chondromalacia patella by clinical examination, he will prescribe to NSAIDS and teach you quadriceps / VMO exercises, and ask for physiotherapy modalities
Health Tips
avoid squatting, sitting on floor or cross leg, climbing steps etc which would increase the symptoms.
