Knee pain since 2-3 months

I am having pain in my right knee from past 2-3 months I don't know why because I neither had a fall or any accident . my height is 5'5 and weight is 64kg . What I feel is maybe it was because of me running on trademill in gym. Please suggest what shall I do . when consulted doctor was not given medicines and he suggested few leg excersises
