I had ACL tear recently and I opted for physiotherapy. My doctor asked me take 3 weeks bed rest and gave one leg immobilizer. If i set leg immobilizer tightly, then my leg will pain otherwise it will be loose. So is that pain normal? Also want to understand the purpose of leg immobilizer.

Porpose of this brace s to give your injured joint some support by not allowing movements. If one strong ligament is injured then there are good chances that the other soft tissues in and around the knee are also injured. Bracing is done to allow them to heal.

The function of leg immobilizer is to prevent knee movements particularly side to side  movements. When applied, it should be comfortably tight. Best & safest immobilizer is above knee plaster cast.
