If the fracture of the tooth involves the pulp( nerves and blood vessels), or the tooth has blackened, or there is pain, and sinus formation (pus discharge from a small bump on the gums),
then it means there is infection which is caused by the dead pulp tissues of the tooth. This infection becomes chronic as time passes and sometimes doesn't show any symptoms like pain or sensitivity which doesn't mean that there is no infection . So before going for any restorations or capping you need to go for RCT first.
