Yes, it’s not uncommon to experience a transient increase in hair shedding even after several months of minoxidil use. This may represent a telogen effluvium-like phenomenon or a phase of minoxidil-induced hair cycling, where older, miniaturized hairs are shed to make way for newer, thicker anagen hairs. However, other factors such as poor compliance, scalp inflammation, or progression of androgenetic alopecia should also be considered.
Next Steps
Continue using minoxidil 5% consistently without interruption, as stopping may worsen hair fall. Ensure it is applied properly on a clean, dry scalp. If you are using foam, use 1g twice daily; if it’s solution, 1 mL twice daily. Consider adjunct therapies like biotin, zinc, or iron supplements if there's any suspected deficiency. If shedding persists beyond 4–6 weeks, a clinical review is advisable to rule out other causes like seborrheic dermatitis or underlying nutritional triggers.
Health Tips
Avoid over-washing or aggressive scalp manipulation. Minoxidil should be continued long-term for sustained benefit—discontinuation will often result in reversal of gains. Make sure the product is genuine and stored properly, as degraded formulations can be less effective.
