Is a hip replacement necessary

Hello, My father had fall and his right hip bone is displaced with a slight fracture. We got the X-ray done and the doctor initially said he needs a minor operation where in they will have to put a couple of screws and set it. However, they suggest a hip replacement now. Can you please advise if this is the only way to go or a minor operation with screws will do. Playing find the X-ray attached. Thanks and Regards Sreenivas

X-ray is not clear. If the diagnosis is fracture neck of femur, at 76 there is no change that I'll suggest you screw fixation, it is reserved for relatively young people. Elderly patients need to be on the feet as quickly as possible which is possible only with hemi-replacement

Replacement is better option in this age because u need to make patient walk as early as possible But replacement required in this case is only half side of joint we call it hemiarthroplasty Not total hip replacement
