How much milk for a 12 day old baby ?

2024-08-06 07:46:28
I am getting 30 ml of breast milk every two hours, Doctor has told to feed extra 20 ml of formula milk for the baby to gain weight. But my baby is feeding almost 90 ml of milk every 2-3 hours. Is this fine?

All babies grow at different rates. Feeding should be decided by the baby as they know how much they need. Calculations are just a starting point. Go by the baby's demand not by any calculation.

What’s the age & weight of baby. Feeds should be according to that. Follow the feeding cues & make sure baby sleeps well after each feed & passes urine both morning and night and stool. This would clearly indicate that your baby is gaining enough weight.

Babies self regulate their hunger and milk intake so it is okay for them to take more specially in summers when foremilk is watery . As for your milk production - the more you breastfeed more is the production
Next Steps
As long as baby is not regurgitating or vomiting il, let them take the amount they want with proper burping
Health Tips
Check for weight gain to make sure baby is feeding sufficiently well.
