HIV question, query
Hello Doctor,
Please read my question carefully.
I took rabies booster dose from a governed medical. The syringe was already loaded with vaccines.
Vaccines are kept in a plastic container with one ice packet. Container was moist. I saw one used syringe was also there. But no needle connected.
My question is if that syringe was used for someone. How much risk for hiv? As they didn't use the same syringe to me. They given a already vaccine loaded syringe to me.
My concern is if the used syringe contains blood and mixed with moisture. As the container was with a icepack. If those blood mixed moisture touch my syringe needle. Any chance for infection?
I am very much worried. Please help.

I understand your concern, but based on the situation you described, the risk of HIV transmission is extremely negligible (practically zero).
Let me explain why:
• HIV transmission requires direct entry of fresh infected blood into the bloodstream, usually through:
• Reuse of the same needle/syringe
• Direct blood-to-blood exposure
• In your case:
• You were given a preloaded syringe, not reused after another patient
• There was no shared needle used between patients
• Even if a used syringe was nearby, casual environmental contamination (moisture/ice box) does not transmit HIV
• HIV virus is very fragile outside the body and gets inactivated quickly in environmental conditions (temperature changes, drying, dilution)
