When it comes to coronary artery blockages, the need for bypass surgery and the associated risks depend on a variety of factors, including the patient's overall health, the location and severity of the blockages, and the presence of symptoms. Severity of Blockage: An 80% blockage in a coronary artery can be significant, and it may indicate the need for intervention. However, the decision to recommend bypass surgery or other treatments is based on factors like the specific arteries affected, the extent of the blockage, and the presence of symptoms. Symptoms: If your father-in-law is experiencing symptoms like dizziness and irregular heartbeats, it may suggest that his heart is not receiving an adequate blood supply. In such cases, doctors often recommend interventions like bypass surgery to restore blood flow. Risk Factors: Even individuals with a healthy lifestyle can develop coronary artery disease. Genetics, family history, and other factors can play a role. While a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of heart disease, it doesn't guarantee immunity. Treatment Options: In many cases, less invasive treatments like angioplasty and stent placement may be considered as alternatives to bypass surgery. The choice of treatment depends on the specific situation. Surgery Risks: Bypass surgery is a major procedure, and like any surgery, it carries certain risks. However, advancements in medical technology and surgical techniques have made the procedure safer. The risks should be discussed in detail with the surgeon. Recovery: Recovery from bypass surgery typically involves a hospital stay and a period of rehabilitation. The patient will need to follow a structured recovery plan, including medications, lifestyle changes, and cardiac rehabilitation to promote healing and reduce the risk of complications. It's important for your father-in-law to have a thorough discussion with his healthcare team, including a cardiologist and a cardiac surgeon, to fully understand his options, the risks and benefits of each, and to make an informed decision. A second opinion can also be valuable in complex medical situations, but it's crucial to rely on the expertise.

Hi i have noted your concern, Coronary artery disease is a degenerative disease that means even if you had a healthy lifestyle, it has other contributing factors like being male, age, family history of CAD, and gene mutation which can cause CAD, which are non modifiable risk factors and as age gets older, Disease also gets progressively worse
Next Steps
Kindly take cardio-thoracic vascular surgeon and interventional cardiologist opinion, and ask the heart pumping function of the patient, other risk factor and total no. Of vessels which are blocked? Based on that which is more beneficial for the patient doctor will advise for that option, although CABG IS BEST TREATMENT FOR CAD, we still need to look for other factors as patient is feasible for surgery or not, you take the CTVS Opinion they will help you out.
Health Tips
Please note: until and unless revascularization is not done patient needs to be on bed rest he should be free from any kind of stress, he should not stop any of the medications specially blood thinners without consulting a doctor and closely watch for chest pain, breathing difficulty, nausea, vomitings, uneasiness, palpitations, sweating, at rest or while any exertion, if any symptoms noted kindly immediately seek medical attention from nearby hospital or emergency room!
