As a senior citizen, I would advise you to go in for an RIC(receiver-in-canal) type of hearing aid. This has 2 modules- the battery compartment along with the microphones rest behind your ears whereas the highly miniaturized speaker will be lodged inside your ear canal connected by a very slender wire.
This means that the behind the ear unit is almost 50% smaller than a conventional BTE(behind the ear) hearing aid and since the speaker is in your ear canal, you get a crystal-clear hearing. In addition these RIC devices are digital multi-channel devices which can be programmed by your audiologist for different environments with different settings and the device will automatically change the settings when it detects a change in environment. Another new innovation is Bluetooth pairing with your smartphone where your hearing
aids will also ACT AS A BLUETOOTH HANDSFREE UNIT!
About a few years back, such units were very expensive costing â¹1 lakh + per hearing aid but today A PAIR of such hearing aids from Starkey or Oticon should not cost you together more than 50-70 thousand!
