Hi, I am Dr Atul Kumar Nimawat MS ENT Causes VERTIGO are:- Peripheral causes (more common): • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) – most common, triggered by head movement • Meniere’s disease – associated with hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural fullness • Vestibular neuritis – viral infection causing sudden vertigo without hearing loss • Labyrinthitis – infection of the inner ear with vertigo + hearing loss • Perilymph fistula – abnormal connection between middle and inner ear • Cholesteatoma – if involving the labyrinth • Ototoxic drugs – like aminoglycosides Central causes: • Stroke or TIA (especially vertebrobasilar insufficiency) • Multiple sclerosis – demyelination affecting brainstem • Brain tumors – especially cerebellopontine angle tumors like acoustic neuroma • Migraine-associated vertigo • Trauma – concussion or brain injury • Degenerative diseases – like cerebellar ataxia Other causes: • Postural hypotension (sometimes confused with vertigo) • Anemia or hypoglycemia (causing dizziness) • Anxiety or panic disorders
