Hanging head off the bed for too long?

I was lying down on the bed and hanging only my head & neck off the edge off the bed to relieve neck pain. I lost track of time and did it for 8-9 minutes at a stretch. When I got up suddenly I felt dizzy because of the blood rush. Is it dangerous to do it for this long? Could something happen to me? How long should I do this exercise for? Very very grateful for any advice!

Neck flexion and extension excercises to be done under supervision of physiotherapist. Prolonged flexion or extension may lead to nerve damage.

Instead of hanging head & neck for 8-9 minutes, do it for 5 minutes only. Do rotation of neck clockwise and anti clock wise, bending of neck against pressure. Lie without pillow or use thin pillow. Shoulder exercises are also must with it.
