Perimenopause is a wide term. It includes the phase before and after menopause. One year after your last period (when you actually get the diagnosis of Menopause) , you become Postmenopausal.

Premenopause is the whole duration of time before menopause when periods are notmal. Perimenopause is transition time  to menopause when there are hormonal changes and period cycles and bleeding pattern are irregular.This period spreads over a time of a few years.
