I have been suffering from generalised anxiety since last two years and it's only few months I got to know that what it is exactly. I had the peak anxiety 2 months before and now I can feel gradually I am improving . But one symptom i.e., disturbed sleep isn't improving . I am fed up of this symptom . This makes me feel lethargic through out the day and makes me feel dull . What should I do ?

Dear human, thank you for sharing and reaching out. It must have been difficult for you to share this here but I appreciate you for doing so, it takes courage. I understand that anxiety can manifest in different ways and one of them is irregular sleep pattern. Generalized anxiety disorder meaning you would be always on edge, restless and anticipating the future for each and every aspect of your life. It could be because of your personality type, any negative life events, past trauma, depression, loneliness, uncertainty, etc. It's good to hear that you're getting better but it's physical symptoms would take time to settle down. It's a process and the journey can be hard and exhausting. Always remember you cannot completely get rid of your anxiety but you could learn efficient and healthy to cope with it. Here are few ways to deal with your anxiety: 1. Practice journalling - Write down your thoughts exactly as is when you feel anxious. This would help in venting out your emotions, feelings and thoughts, and also to reflect on your thoughts. 2. Practice mindfulness using 5-4-3-2-1 technique - Mindfulness is being completely present at the moment without judging or trying to stop your thought process/flow. You can start to practice this by small technique, 5-4-3-2-1 where in first you take deep breaths, and then name five things that you can see around you, four things that you can hear, three things that you can touch, two things that you can smell and one things that you can taste. 3. Try to exercise daily or involve in any kind of physical movements for atleast 30 minutes/day. This could help in your sleep patterns. 4. Talk to someone about anxiety and share your experiences. This helps in venting out and validating your experiences. 5. Finally, seek professional help. Reach out to a psychologist or therapist to identify your thought patterns related to anxiety in a safe space and modify it. You could also learn effective coping strategies to follow it life-long.
