Gasping during sleep

I was observing from past few months that My son who is 6 year old was Abruptly awakenings accompanied by gasping or choking.is it natural .I observed his mouth was open while sleeping .is that can be the reason or is it sleep apnea.please help

Hi, Could be nose block. Use saline nasal drops and clean the nose. Do steam inhalation. If still breathing open mouth, meet a ENT doctor to rule out adenoids.
