If the tooth is half broken, following are your options:
1. Direct composite filling: Build up the broken portion of the tooth exactly to the shape and shade of the original with chairside treatment from an experienced esthetic dentist. This is the best option as it does not involve any further tooth cutting. The filling will always have a life and you are advised not to break anything from this tooth. If it does discolor or dislodge, you can get it redone.
2. Ceramic laminate veneer: a thin shell of ceramic material is bonded to the tooth. This looks the best (although direct composites are now almost as good). Tooth needs to be prepared to receive a laminate, so we need to cut the natural enamel further.
3. Complete crown: In case of badly damaged teeth, we can give a full crown (cap) which can be of a variety of materials. Again tooth needs to be prepared (cut) to receive this crown.
